Series Overview

4 Week Series 1: Level 1 Introduction to Salsa On2 & Bachata

A fast-paced beginner class that is meant to be retaken so you don’t have to commit to 6–8 week long classes. The series cycles for new students and for students who are retaking the series to develop muscle memory and build a strong foundation in their basics. Each cycle of the series, is a slightly different variation of the material.

What's it like taking Salsa Series 1?

  • 1st time BASICS: Exposure to the basics, learn timing and rhythm, retain at least 30% of the material.
  • 2nd time retaking BODY MECHANICS: Do the basics on your own, retain an extra 30%, focus on body movement
  • 3rd time retaking STYLING: Develop muscle memory of the basics. Retain an extra 40%, successfully execute basic combos. Add styling

What's it like taking Bachata Series 1?

  • Bachata Series 1 is meant to be taken once or as many times as you need. Bachata basics are much easier to learn than Salsa due to simpler rhythm and timing and can get more complex as you progress due to hip and body movement.

Note: Retention and progress depend on your background in body movement and dance. Practicing outside of class is mandatory and recap videos will be provided. The homework (documentaries and reading material) is optional but highly recommended.

About the Instructor:

Michelle’s passion for movement began in El Centro, California, where she has over 24 years of experience in gymnastics, ballet, karate, and 12 years of classical music, including choir and violin. These early experiences built her discipline, strength, flexibility, and body awareness. She later began her Latin dance journey at UC San Diego and now has over 8 years of experience in salsa and bachata. Read more...

You can sign up for Salsa, Bachata, or both! Drop-ins are available if you can’t make all the dates, but we highly recommend joining the full series to progress with us into the next 4-Week Series 2 beginner lessons.
